US Election 2020 : Trump claims election fraud, predicts a victory

Nov 04, 2020

President Trump claims without evidence ,Tuesday's election a 'fraud on the American people' and saying that he was going to the Supreme Court to demand that 'all voting stop' despite the fact that millions of ballots remain uncounted.

'Frankly we did win this election. We want all voting to stop. We don't want them to find any ballots at four in the morning and add them to the list,' Trump said, with many key battleground states still to be declared.

He railed that the election had not been called already by TV networks and the press – although that is not their role. Trump then threatened a legal challenge – without explaining how - saying he was going to go to the Supreme Court.

Trump's indignant remarks set the stage for a titanic struggle with Joe Biden over the millions of ballots that are still to be counted - and which might not be fully counted until as late as Friday. Neither candidate has yet won the 270 electoral college votes needed for a majority and Biden is ahead in every count.

With Trump having kept Florida, Texas and Ohio - the biggest prizes from the battleground – the election effectively comes down to Pennsylvania and Michigan, where millions of votes remain uncounted. Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina were also still counting as he spoke.

Biden has taken the lead in Wisconsin, by under 10,000 votes, when just before 5am Wednesday - votes from Milwaukee County dropped. That county went for Biden in a big way - 317,251 for the Democrat, compared to 134,355 votes for Trump.

Nevada stopped counting just after 5.30am EST, leaving the state too close to call, with counting not resuming until 11am EST at the earliest, and Pennsylvania, which holds 20 electoral college votes, says counting will continue until Friday.

But at the White House, Trump demanded all counting to stop, boasting about the margins he had rung up already - prompting Biden's team to issue a scathing rebuttal.

'This is a fraud on the American public, this is an embarrassment to our country, we were getting ready to win this election, frankly we did win this election,' Trump proclaimed in the White House's East Room, surrounded by his children and supporters.
