Grassroots sports minimize social vices among youths – Owner of Ebony FC

Sep 18, 2020

Owner of Ebony FC,'Chairman Awudu 'Ebony' has advised government and Ghana Football Association to stick to plans of reviving and developing grassroots or colts sports since it curbs various social vices among the youths in the country.

Awudu Ebony therefore urged the government and other benevolent individuals who have passion for the much loved sports to invest more in local football and grassroots competitions, insisted that government can reduce social vices among the youths through grassroots sports.

In an interview monitored by pitchonlinesports, the Coach of the colts football maintained that when youths are engaged through football, social vices such as thuggery, hooliganism among Ghanaian youths are reduced.

''We can prevent many social vices in Ghana if the government invest in grassroots sports. The government should develop our own local football clubs, by this many youths will be engaged and then they will be shunning social vices. When youths are fully engaged, they will have no time to commit crimes''.

There are so many of our kids playing football on the streets who have raw talent and to preserve a conveyor belt of talent that should ultimately benefit our football at every sphere, such raw talent needs to be honed.

''District and Municipal Chief Executives should factor development of grassroots football in their plan because it goes a long way to occupy youths and ceases them from venturing into social vices''.

He also tasked stakeholders to join hands together to return the past glory back to Ghana's domestic football and subsequently save the nation's top flight and the national team at large.

He listed financial hurdles in the management of colts or juvenile football but was quick to add that football lovers who are ready to nurture talents should be ready to face these challenges.
