Professor Nkansah leads Otumfuo's team to probe Kotoko

May 02, 2020

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has appointed Professor Lydia Nkansah, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, to lead a three-member committee to investigate the affairs of Asante Kotoko.

According to a statement by the Chief of Staff of Manhyia Palace, Mr Kofi Badu, on behalf of the Asantehene, other members of the committee are Mr Kofi Owusu, Registrar of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs, and Mr Lawrence Bruce Kwei, a private legal practitioner.

Group’s mandate

On April 22, the Asantehene, the sole shareholder of Kotoko, concerned about the acrimony and unending media attacks on the club's Executive Chairman, Dr Kwame Kyei, over the club's non-payment of the $180,000 debt to Tunisian side, Esperance, announced the formation of the three-member committee to investigate Dr Kyei's three-year mandate as well as the debt due to Esperance.

The team will look also into the failure by Kotoko to meet certain regulatory requirements of the Premier League’s Club Licensing system.
