Irate Youth demonstrate over 'Akyem Sakawa boys' comment,demand retraction from Mahama

Sep 10, 2020

A group calling itself Concerned Citizens of Okyeman have embarked on demonstration to protest against what they describe as an endorsement of ethnocentric comments by the former President John Dramani Mahama.

The demonstrating Akyem natives criticized the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) for sharing a social media post which allegedly decribe the people of Akyem as 'Sakawa'.

Bolgatanga Central Constituency MP, Isaac Adongo used the descriptor in a write-up critiquing the Agyapa Royalties deal. The write-up was subsequently shared on John Mahama’s Facebook page.

The protesters made up of Chiefs and natives from Akyem Abuakwa, Akyem Kotoku and Akyem Bosome were seen at the Asamankese Community Center claded in red and black attire with placards bearing inscriptions;'Progressive Dialogue Not Insults' ' Stop The Politics Of Insults' 'Stop This Bigotry' and more.

Some of the protesters shared their sentiments;

''These insults must stop and argue properly...it has been repeating itself''

''They have said same about Okyehene sometime ago''

''One cannot attach such an awful character like Sakawa to Akyem State...it is unacceptable and in bad taste''

''And so we need Mahama to retract and apologize to Nananom,Ghanaians''

The group has issued a 72 hour ultimatum to former President John Mahama to render an unqualified apology to the Akyem State and Ghanaians or face their wrath.
