A former District Chief Executive for Sekyere Central under the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama government has criticized President Akufo- Addo’s approach in combatting the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ebenezer Akuoko Sarpong in an interview with journalists, downplayed the President’s swift measures in handling the novel coronavirus, challenging him to confidently come out with real numbers of people who have been infected with the virus.
“To me the reason why some Ghanaians have not taken the stay-at-home directive very serious is that the government seems to play politics with the figures of the infected persons and those who he (President Akufo- Addo) claims to have died or recovered,” he said, adding that if the people are not seeing the clear picture of how vicious and deadly the pandemic is, they would never be bothered to take it serious about it, hence there would also be people not ready to respect the directive.
“The government came out claiming that some of the people who contracted the virus have recovered whiles others are responding to treatment. Who are those that have recovered or responding to treatment,” he quizzed, adding that he does not believe the figures that have been circulating.
The angry former Sekyere Central DCE claimed the GHC4.5 billion for monitoring and evaluation was bogus and could have been used for something meaningful, adding, “the GHC4.5 billion could have been used to purchase Personal Protective Equipment’s (PPEs), ventilators or send to information directors to educate the public on the pandemic”
He furthered that the government’s decision to partially select some communities to test them was not the best way in fighting against the virus, rather the test should have been done in all the lockdown areas.
Mr. Ebenezer Akuoko Frimpong also suggested that some of alleged recovered Covid- 19 patients must be made to come out to educate the public about the dangers of the novel disease.
