Martin Amidu hinted that following his resignation from the Office of the Special Prosecutor, he has been receiving threats to his life and property.

According to him, he had contacted the National Security Minister, Kan Dapaah when the threats started coming in, however, the Minister had not responded to his call.

“I put my life on the interest of the Republic of Ghana and the president will be responsible if anything happens to me,” the former Attorney General said.

Martin Amidu in an interview stated that he has since received threats after undertaking the anti-corruption assessment report on the Agyapa Royalties deal.

According to him, “threats about bagging me, armed robbery, burn my house,” are some of the threats that have come to his notice.

Mr Amidu stated that he has tried severally to report threat-related issues to the Minister of National Security, Ken Daapah but has not yielded any results.

“I tried to call Ken Dapaah, but he did not pick up but I got a former national security advisor to contact him and inform him.”

Martin Amidu quitted his job as Special Prosecutor on Monday.

In his resignation letter to the Office of the President on Monday, Mr Amidu revealed that the demise of the former President Jerry John Rawlings put an end to the only protection he had.

In what sounds like a protest, Mr Amidu said he accepted to be nominated as the Special Prosecutor on one condition - the president's "firm promise to respect and ensure same by your Government for my independence and freedom of action as the Special Prosecutor”.

According to Martin Amidu, who personally announced his resignation publicly, his decision to go public with his resignation was advised by developments proceeding his report on the Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions and related matters, describing those developments as "traumatic experience".
