No open-minded leader will cancel SHS Double Track Policy in this crucial moment – Deputy Minister jabs

Sep 11, 2020

The Deputy Minister of Education, Hon. Osei Yaw Adutwum has stated that, the SHS Double Track policy implemented by the current administration has helped a lot of Ghanaian children to get access to education and so calling for its cancellation is out of place.

According to him any leader calling for its cancellation at this crucial times lacks the fundamentals of leadership.

Speaking to Lov’n C on Ghana Ho Nkomo on Silver FM, the Bosomtwe Member of Parliament said ''any leader who will currently think of cancelling the policy is not willing to consider new ideas and not thinking right''

Delivering highlights of the 2020 NDC manifesto last Monday,Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang indicated that in ensuring that the numerous challenges facing the implementation of the Free SHS programme are addressed, the next NDC administration will abolish the double-track system.

“We have every plan and desire to make the Free Senior High School Programme much better by ensuring that its numerous challenges are addressed and that higher operational and academic standards are introduced and are sustained...to do this we will abolish the double-track system''

The next NDC administration also promised to make free SHS better and more inclusive by extending it to cover Private schools in the country.

Reacting to the comment, Mr. Adutwum said NDC do not understand educational process else they would’ve not been saying all these unnecessary promise.

He disclosed when the government intends to abort the double track if the need be.

The Free SHS programme was introduced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2017.
